“See The Able, Not The Label” Autism Awareness Event

About Our "See The Able, Not The Label" Autism Awareness Event

Buckeye Roofing & Exteriors held their first annual “See The Able, Not The Label” Autism Awareness Event on August 13, 2022. Lance Sherry, owner, has been wanting to start up an autism awareness event for years. He has a 6-year-old, nonverbal, autistic, and ADHD son and wanted to create this event to bring others together in the community who have autistic and/or developmentally delayed children and let them know that they are not alone. It’s not always easy for parents of autistic children to do the simple tasks of taking their kiddos to the park or even the grocery store. Not everyone understands the daily struggle. So, our goal was to get a group together for the day to share experiences while the kiddos play and enjoy themselves.

In 2022, we had several food vendors, bounce houses, sing-a-longs, and a sensory play station. Along with these activities, we had two different raffles, one of which was filled with donations from several local businesses. We were able to raise almost $2,000 which was split in half; half went to Good Samaritan School in Defiance and the other half went to The Andrew Jimenez Autism Fund.
